Begin Your Journey

Cashmere simply defined is 'a fine, soft hair obtained from the Cashmere goat'. This concise definition merely scratches the surface of the journey this noble fibre makes on its way to becoming 'Robert Old Cashmere'.

The Origins of Cashmere

One of the world’s rarest natural fibers; Cashmere is universally prized for its warmth and sublime softness.

The links between Scotland and cashmere are rooted in a rich history of craftsmanship, global trade, and cultural exchange.

Scotland has played a pivotal role in the production and refinement of high-quality cashmere garments, using wool sourced from Hircus goats, primarily found in the Himalayan regions of Kashmir, China, and Mongolia.

Today, Scottish producers continue to create world-class cashmere products, emphasizing sustainability and ethical sourcing using wool imported from traditional cashmere-producing regions.

History of Cashmere +

Sourcing the finest cashmere grade and quality

Trading in the highest quality was first embraced by Robert Old in 1909, and remains at the core of the business to this day.

Scotland’s expertise in weaving and its long tradition of wool production made it a natural center for cashmere textile manufacturing, and the first choice for sourcing our luxury garments.

The soft water found in Scotland is also ideal for dyeing and finishing cashmere wool, ensuring vibrant colors and a distinctive softness synonymous with Scottish craftsmanship.

Scottish cashmere remains a hallmark of quality and craftsmanship, with its heritage deeply rooted in the global history of this exceptional fabric.

CASHMERE SWEATER SIZING GUIDE

The sizing of our Cashmere Sweaters and Cardigans refers to a Gentleman's chest measurement. Our garments are designed to give a comfortable 'Classic' fit with approximately 4 inches of additional space over the chest area.

We advise ordering the comparative size to your own chest measurement. The measurement should be taken just under the arms and closely around the body.

For instance, if your chest measures 44 inches (112cm) we would advise ordering a size 44 Cashmere Sweater. You will find that this measures 48" giving you the previously mentioned extra room for comfort.

If you prefer a more fitted garment we recommend that you order a size smaller than your chest measurement to suit your preference.

If you wish to place an order but are unsure of your size, why not measure your favourite sweater? Lay it flat and measure across the chest from armpit to armpit.

Please do not hesitate to contact us should you require any further clarification on sizing before placing an order.
